Mary Amorosia

“I teach because I love music and voices and young people.”

 

Mrs. Amorosia began her music studies at age 8.  In addition to her work with Jack Prenner (30 yr. Coach for Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein), she spent 2 years at Juilliard and received her Bachelors degree in Voice and Performance from Manhattanville College.  Her teachers included Stanley Sontag, Edith Bers, Evelyn Hertzman, Sophia Steffan, Emmy Joseph and Arlyn Brewster.

 

Mary spent over 20 years as a performer, with success in radio, stage, concert and opera performance.  She was accepted into the Metropolitan Opera Studio in 1973.

 

Mrs. Amorosia’s students have met with success, winning leads in high school productions, professional plays, commercials and TV.  They have also done well in local competitions, where they have placed as finalists and semi-finalists in the Macy Awards,  Spotlight, Rotary/Singer of the Year, Disney Challenge and Opera Pacific Competitions.

 

Mary’s students have been accepted  in Theater and Vocal Departments at, among many others, USC, Loyola Marymount, Cal State Long Beach,  UCLA, University of Cincinnati-Cincinnati Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, New England Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory, Cornish College of the Arts, and North Carolina School of the Arts,   Her  students have been chosen for summer at the UCLA Vocal Institute, Songfest, San Francisco Women’s Summer Opera Program, Aspen Summer Music Camp, Florida State Musical Theater Camp and Voice of  America Summer European tours.

 

In addition to her private teaching duties at Coast Band Music, Mrs. Amorisia is the Divisional Head of Individual Voice at AMDA in Los Angeles and Instructor at California Conservatory of the Arts.
